My skincare routine has certainly experienced its share of ebbs and flows. I went from using the same drugstore brand cleanser every morning and night for nearly a decade, to now having a multi-step routine that includes masks and a jade roller. I’ve learned that one of the finer luxuries in life is taking care of your skin every day. It’s something that I’ve weaved into my daily routine and makes waking up easier, and going to bed more relaxing.

However, it has certainly been a trial and error process, especially since I’m someone who gravitates towards new beauty trends from time to time. For me, it’s more than just something I feel like I have to do, taking care of my skin and trying new products is something I enjoy. And while I’m always open to trying out what’s being buzzed about in the beauty community, this is what my current skincare routine looks like.

Morning

One of the first things I do when I wake up is wash my face with cold water. Since I wake up so early (before 6 am, most days), I find that this helps awaken my senses and get my day started. Not only that, but washing with cold water instead of hot helps reduce the size of pores. I’ve been using the Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser for a couple of months and I love that it makes my face feel clean, and is still gentle enough for everyday use. I follow that up with the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum. This is the newest addition to my routine and leaves my skin feeling super smooth when I go to apply moisturizer after. The vitamin C also provides added benefits, like collagen boosting properties, which helps aid dryness. In this winter weather, I really couldn’t use enough of any of the above. Next, I’ll apply moisturizer—which lately is the Fresh Vitamin Nectar Face Cream—to lock in the moisture for the day ahead.

After finishing up the rest of my morning routine—breakfast and getting ready—I’ll spritz on my Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray before I head out the door. I’ve always been more of a fan of dewy skin versus matte skin, which this spray achieves.

Evening

When I get home from work, I like to cleanse my face because it usually feels oily after a long day, but over-cleansing can further irritate your skin. I’ll usually take a cotton pad and use the Origins Balancing Tonic to rid my face of any dirt. Sometimes I’m feeling lazy and will just use a make-up wipe, but I try to use the toner, so my pores are de-clogged and my skin feels refreshed.

Night

Depending on the night, it may be a one-step routine or my usual three-step process and then some. I normally keep the total skin pamper session to one night a week—usually on Sunday night. This includes cleansing with my Clarisonic, which I truly think is worth the hype. It gives your face a deep-clean and rids it of any impurities. Of course, for those with more sensitive skin, it may not be the product for you, but I’ve found that it’s been a total game changer. I’ll then follow that up with a face mask—I’m currently loving Sephora’s red clay mask and Origins Active Charcoal Mask, which I switch out depending on how my skin is doing. I’ll moisturize after washing off the mask, and then the best part of my nighttime skincare routine: jade rolling. This is one of those trends I heard about through Instagram, and have never looked back. It’s a handheld face massage tool that dates back to ancient China. Jade rolling helps with blood circulation as well as detoxing the lymphatic system. It also has a cooling effect, which really helps me get into “sleep mode”.  On a normal weeknight, I’ll usually just cleanse and moisturize my face, and jade roll if I’m not too tired.

What my skincare routine consists of changes with time, but I’ve found that my current one has greatly benefited the texture and complexion of my skin.
