The Ins and Outs of Cryotherapy

It’s 2018. We are living in a fast-paced world with quick solutions. While ice packs and ice baths have always been effective for healing purposes, it can be time consuming, and take a while to see results, which is why Cryotherapy has become increasingly popular.

Cryotherapy has been around for about 30 years, and the technology has improved immensely, becoming a trend in the US  this year. It seems this 2–3-minute cold session helps pain, your overall health, and actually works. Sounds like magic, right?

What is it?

Cryotherapy can be targeted to certain areas of the body or used for full body treatments, depending on what you are looking for. Whether you are an athlete or someone struggling with mental pain or physical pain, it could be beneficial to give it a try. You will be exposed to extremely cold temperatures, sometimes below -200 degrees, which helps with blood flow as the body warms back up. Though that may sound like torture to some, people seem to keep going back.

Benefits:

  • Athletes
  • Repairs damaged muscles
  • Chronic pain and other conditions
  • Boost metabolism
  • Increases metabolic rate
  • Helps with cellulite
  • Energy

Where is Cryotherapy offered?

Orangetheory Fitness has begun Orange Cryo Wellness on the East Coast and is expanding to its other locations that are available across 46 states. There are other facilities available outside this chain, such as US Cryotherapy, wellness centers, and spas.

Precautions

If you have a preexisting condition of any kind, or even if you don’t, it is always good to consult with a doctor before taking part in a new form of therapy.

Cryotherapy seems to be increasing in popularity due to positive reactions to treatment, so it can’t be all that bad and must be worth it. If Cryotherapy is something that has caught your attention, consult a doctor and see if it can benefit you too!
