How to Get Pedicure-Quality Feet at Home
If you’re looking to save some money on nail salon trips, or if you just want new ways to take care of yourself at home, one of the best ways to treat yourself is to give your feet a pedicure treatment right in the comfort of your home. Get ready to have flip flop ready feet all summer long.
If you have a vacation coming up in a few weeks…
Try a foot peel like Baby Foot Exfoliation Foot Peel. Of course, read the label online to make sure this product is safe for you to use. If it is, get ready to have the softest feet of your life. All you have to do is slip on a pair of booties filled with natural extracts, wear them for about an hour and a half, and then rinse your feet. After a few days to a week, the dead, dry skin on your feet will start to peel off for about two weeks. At the end of the process, your feet will look and feel brand new. Then, you can use the following tips to give yourself a pedicure treatment.
If you have less time to spare…
Skip the foot peel and start prepping for a pedicure you can give yourself more immediately. If you like doing your nails at home, you may already have a lot of the necessary tools. If not, you may need to take a trip to your local drugstore before you begin.
Stock up on the essentials
When you head out to the store to get everything you need for your pedicure, be sure to pick up Epsom salt, a foot file, a nail file, a buffer block, cuticle oil, a cuticle pusher, toe separators, unscented lotion, a base coat, and a top coat. You probably already have a towel, moisturizer, and nail polish at home.
Prepare a relaxing environment.
After you use nail polish remover for any polish lingering on your toenails, fill your tub or a small basin with warm water. You can add your favorite body wash to the water or some of the Epsom salt. Make sure to let your feet soak for about fifteen minutes so that your skin and nails soften. Plus, it’s incredibly calming.
Remove dead skin.
If you’ve done the foot peel, skip this step. Your feet are already exfoliated and will be sensitive if you scrub at them. If you haven’t done a foot peel, use your foot file to get rid of dead skin on any dry, callused areas of your feet. Spend a little extra time working on the balls of your feet, the sides of your feet, and your heels. Do this until your feet are smooth, but be gentle with your feet. The process should never feel painful or uncomfortable.
Shape your nails themselves.
If your toenails are in need of a trim, use your nail clippers to shorten them, always trimming straight across. If not, you can file away the necessary amount. File down the corner of your nails and buff them with your buffer block. You shouldn’t cut your cuticles at this point, as they are meant to protect your skin from infections. If your cuticles are bothering you, just use your cuticle pusher to gently move them back.
Moisturize your nails and feet.
You should apply cuticle oil to the base of your nails to moisturize the area and prevent your nail polish from chipping. Then, you should apply unscented lotion all over both of your feet. Make sure not to use scented lotion because this could cause cracking in your nail polish.
Paint your nails.
After you’ve given your feet and nails their spa treatment, it’s time to actually paint your nails. Start with your base coat, which gives nail polish something to sink into besides your nails themselves. Apply one or two coats of the base, letting each coat dry for about two minutes. Then, apply two coats of your regular nail polish, allowing the same dry time. Finish everything off with your top coat for a shiny finish. Even though nail polish doesn’t take too long to dry, it can actually take up to twelve hours to fully harden. To speed up the process, you can dip your toenails in cold water.
Sometimes, you want a pedicure treatment without spending a fortune and without leaving your house. The next time you’re in need of a little spa treatment, give yourself a pedicure right in your own bathroom.
