Now’s The Perfect Time to Change Up Your Skincare Routine

If you’ve been looking for the right time to look into alternative skincare products and possibly change out the ones you’re currently using for some new finds, there’s no better time than now. Who says skincare can’t be a hobby?

Now that you’re spending more time at home—possibly eating differently and definitely adjusting to a new daily routine—here are a few suggestions your skin may benefit from.

For redness and inflammation:

Consuming more alcohol, sugar, and processed carbohydrates may have an effect on your skin, especially if you are already prone to acne and redness. To combat this, it’s important to first adjust your diet and reach for more veggies and fruits instead of processed snacks. On the skincare side of things, consider looking for a product with azelaic acid, which may help with hyper-pigmentation. Likewise, be on the lookout for squalene, an ingredient known to have a calming effect on the skin.

For extra dryness:

If you’re spending an abnormal amount of time indoors, getting less exposure to vitamin D and more exposure to heat or AC, your skin may be suffering as a result. Try to take your lunch break outside (applying SPF beforehand, of course!) and getting a much-needed break in the fresh air. When you go to wash your face in the morning and at night, remember to use warm water and avoid anything that has harsh additives like alcohol, fragrance, and chemical exfoliants. Look for moisturizers with hyaluronic acid and ceramides to help lock in moisture. Head to this blog for product-specific details of what to do for extremely dry skin.

For when you’re looking for a new addition:

Maybe you’re one of the lucky ones and this harsh adjustment to daily life isn’t affecting your skin, in which case, you may just be looking to add something to your skincare routine for fun. Something like a vitamin C serum or another antioxidant-based serum could be just what your skin needs for an added boost. Maybe try that face mask you’ve been eyeing, and don’t forget about a skincare device to top it all off. You may have heard about jade rollers, but there are plenty of other unique options on the market these days to depuff, like LED light therapy tools, lymphatic drainage massage rollers, quartz facial rollers, microneedling tools, and facial steamers. Just be sure to do your research before making the splurge, especially if you have sensitive skin.
