We’re Spilling the Tea on the Teatox Trend

A popular method for weight loss assistance is detoxing. Drinking special tea blends is believed by some to help speed weight loss and boost energy. How effective is this method? Is it safe for everyone?

The detox method

The concept of detoxing has existed for a long time. Detoxing is an attempt to rid the body of toxins that aren’t promoting bodily functions. It helps to break down fat and boost your immune system, resulting in quick weight loss results.

What a tea detox does

What’s in the tea?

Along with regular, caffeinated green tea that has various antioxidants, teatoxes like BooTea use Senna leaf. Senna leaf is an FDA approved laxative that will reduce bloat and stimulate intestines to get rid of toxins quickly. Aside from the laxative properties, herbs like ginseng root and lemon grass promote blood sugar regulation and help in weight loss.

Why people choose teatox over regular detox

A regular detox would involve drinking various juices and a lot of water. Teatox is different because it includes caffeine, allowing you to skip the coffee, and has more natural ingredients than other weight loss systems on the market. Be careful when choosing a brand, because not all have 100 percent natural ingredients.

How often you drink teatox

Standard teatox plans come in 21-day and 14-day increments. Depending on brand, a package comes with morning and night time teas. The morning teas help boost your immune system with antioxidants and your energy level with a bit of caffeine. However, the night tea is the cleansing regimen. It is recommended to consume the night tea every other evening before bed, as the laxative effect can be strong depending on your body.

Side effects and safety

As with any diet trend, there are steps you should take to ensure your safety and reduce risk of these side effects.

Excessive weight loss and dehydration

Detoxes can help you drop the pounds quickly, but be cautious about what you’re eating in conjunction with the teatox. Be sure to stay on top of drinking water and eating enough protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins/minerals. If you feel weak, dizzy, and exhausted, this is probably a sign to stop the teatox and go back to your regular routine. A safe weight loss during teatoxing is between 1–5 pounds, but safe limits can be unique to your own body chemistry.

Long term weight loss and well-being comes from more than a 21-day teatox. While a teatox might be a good option for you, always supplement with a balanced diet and exercise. Consult your doctor before trying any new teatoxes, especially if you have pre-existing conditions like high blood pressure.
