“Wood” You Use These Natural Products to Clean Your Floors?

Hardwood floors are tricky to take care of. It seems that a lot of products on the market are made with chemicals that can do more harm than good to your floors and home. Follow these tips to use natural cleaners that will improve your hardwood floor’s appearance and longevity without the harsh chemicals.

Avoid using a lot of water

Wood and water do not like each other. Using overly soaked mops and cloths damage your floors overtime.

Water and vinegar

Water and vinegar are a classic hardwood floor cleaner people swear by. Vinegar is a great option because of its acidity. For this reason, it should be diluted a bit with a small amount of water to make sure it’s not too acidic that it will erode the sealant on the hardwood. Mix the two together, spray on the floor, and use whatever type of cleaning tool you’d like.

Olive oil and lemon juice

The acidity of lemon mixed with the shine and hydrating nature of olive oil makes a perfect, cheap hardwood floor cleaner. Other store brand cleaners that claim to leave floors shiny leave a dirt attracting film overtop that olive oil does not.

Tea bags

Next time you make a cup of tea, consider steeping a few more bags and using black tea as a hardwood floor cleaner. Dip a towel into the tea after it’s done steeping, ring it out to remove excess liquid until it’s damp, and wipe the hardwood.

Hardwood is beautiful, but it’s also an investment. Put in the correct care to protect, clean, and shine without harsh chemicals.
