Escape from Reality in a Getaway House
Looking for an escape from reality? Interested in a secluded, relaxing cabin adventure? A Getaway house could be exactly what you need to unwind.
How it started
College friends Jon Staff and Pete Davis found themselves completely wrapped up in city-life, technology, and their busy lives. They often joked about going off the grid and “running away into nature.” Jon and Pete each took separate trips, where they found the beauty of being alone, doing nothing, and not relying on any technology. These trips, along with the urge to find balance in their lives, promoted them to start their business, Getaway. A Getaway house is a tiny cabin secluded in nature that people can rent for a few nights. It comes with the all the essentials you need for your stay, so guests can focus on relaxation. The first cabin was built in 2015 in southern New Hampshire. Now, they own about one hundred cabins across the United States. The goal of these tiny cabins is for people to get away from the daily grind and just enjoy each other’s company and nature.
What you’ll get
You can choose from cabins located in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh/Cleveland, Portland, and Washington, DC. Each one is fairly small in stature, only about 140–200 square-feet, but it can sleep up to four people. You can select cabins with one or two queen-sized beds, depending on the size of your party, which come with fresh linens and towels.
The Getaway house provides everything you need for your trip. It has a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, hot water, shower, toilet, air conditioning, and heat. Even better, it provides cooking essentials such as eating utensils, pots, pans, paper towels, dish soap, and even cooking basics like olive oil, salt, and pepper. You can also purchase provisions such as snacks, pasta, and coffee if you’d like.
On the outside, each cabin has a fire pit surrounded by picnic tables and chairs for all your s’mores needs. Because the creators were so passionate about disconnecting while on this vacation, there is no Wi-Fi at the cabins. However, the house comes with playing cards, an activity book, and a lock box for your phones.
Why you should try
Everyone needs a break from the 9–5 every once in a while. As Jon and Pete found out, it’s easy to get tangled in the web of life, unsure of which way is up. The Getaway house provides a safe space to relax and get in-touch with nature. Because of all the amenities, it’s perfect for those who love to camp, and even for those who don’t. Bring your spouse, friends, family, or even come by yourself! Either way, the Getaway house is sure to bring new memories and leave you feeling refreshed.
