The Importance of Setting Micro Goals in the Workplace

Long term goals are important, but maintaining the drive and confidence to get there is not always easy. Appreciate each small step it will take to get you to your end goal by setting micro goals for yourself. Micro goals will keep you from getting discouraged.

What is it?

I think it’s safe to say micro goals are the individual pieces of your long-term puzzle—which together, make your end goal more clearly laid out with each piece you complete.

Benefits

Micro goals are easier to plan, implement, and complete in a short period of time. They are a way of not getting discouraged on the way to accomplishing long-term goals. Getting overwhelmed is going to inhibit your productivity, and setting smaller goals prevents those unwanted feelings from sneaking up on you.

How to create micro goals:

  • Take a look at what you want your end goal to look like.
  • Break the long-term goal down into steps.
  • Try setting your intention for each day. That way, you feel like you are making the most of every day, and in turn, working towards a larger goal in a timely manner.

Break down these steps as small as you possibly can, which may feel a bit ridiculous, but if one of your steps is to simply pick up a pencil and just get started, that step is still important. You have to take to get you where you need to go. Before you know it, you will have achieved all you have been working towards.

Be productive when it comes to working towards your goals, but remember not to take it all on at once by keeping these tips in mind.
