Pea Milk: A Non-Dairy Alternative

Try this popular dairy alternative that’s eco-friendly, gives you more nutrients then dairy milk, and actually tastes good (but you can be the judge of that)!

How does it work?

The process uses milling to turn the pea plant into flour, which is just a fancy way of grinding down grains into smaller parts. The problem many companies attempting to produce this product have run into is getting this alternative to taste less like a pea plant and more like milk. The current leader in the pea milk industry, Ripple, has figured out a process in which you are left with just the plain protein and not the taste of the pea plant.

Who is it for?

Pea milk is extremely versatile because its consumers include those with nut, dairy, and gluten allergies. Pea milk gives those with allergies the ability to not only have something delicious to pour over their cereal, but also allows them to reap the health benefits, which are arguably more than dairy milk. Those trying to stray away from animal protein will benefit from pea milk as well—most companies will label and verify their product as “free from any animal protein.”

Eco-friendly initiative

Ripple is looking to not only provide its consumers with the absolute best product but also the best containers as well. The company uses 100 percent postconsumer recycled material. It has made a statement addressing the fact that typical milk cartons do not usually get recycled properly because a majority of Americans don’t have access to carton recycling.

While it is slightly more expensive than dairy milk, the quality, health benefits, and efforts to be environmentally friendly make it worth your while.

Pea milk is still in the early stages of its career, but is on its way to taking center stage in supermarkets all over. Give plant based milk a shot! See if the flavor, health benefits, and sustainable efforts will become a part of your weekly routine.
