Plastic Products You Don’t Really Need

Many people have made the eco-friendly switch to reusable water bottles and coffee mugs, but there are plenty of other day-to-day plastic products we can cut down on.

Plastic food storage

This is a big one. Between containers and plastic wrap, we are constantly storing our food in plastic (which really isn’t all that good for your health). Instead, use aluminum containers or glass, which are actually easier to clean and don’t contain the chemicals plastic does. If you live off of plastic wrap and bags, try buying reusable ones online that are biodegradable.

Mop and broom

Instead of using mops with plastic handles and wipes good for one use only, go old school instead. A wooden mop and removable brush will do the same job as its plastic counterpart, but are eco-friendly and reusable. The same goes for brooms with wooden handles and straw bristles, which are the way to go and just as effective.

Spray bottles

It’s really easy to make your own household cleaners and store them in reusable glass containers. Instead of constantly spending money on spray bottles you will only use once, make your own to save money and the environment.

Plastic dishes

Plastic dishes and containers are not the healthiest to eat your food off of—especially if you are heating up said food. You don’t want the chemicals from your plate to make its way into what you eat. Replace plastic plates and cups with glass or ceramic material instead.

Toothbrush

This item is often forgotten. We throw away plastic toothbrushes all the time—luckily, there are plenty of companies selling biodegradable toothbrushes made from bamboo. While you may have trouble finding them in your local grocery store, with the accessibility of online shopping, you can quickly have them sent right to your door.

Laundry detergent

Making your own detergent usually only requires three ingredients (bar soap, washing baking soda, borax) and can easily be stored in a glass container. It’s extremely satisfying saving money on new bottles of detergent each month and instead making your own.

Save money and the environment by getting rid of the unnecessary plastic-based items in your home!
