The Winter Workout Tips You Need to Stay Motivated
The winter season isn’t most people’s favorite time to get fit. Once the excitement of new year’s resolutions wears off and the weather takes a colder turn, it can be difficult to stay motivated to go to the gym, let alone leave the house at all. Let these winter workout tips keep you motivated to stay in shape this season.
Up the cardio
It’s natural to crave more carbs this time of year, especially those of the sweet variety. But hibernating indoors won’t help. Try increasing the amount of cardio you do, as well as the amount of core exercises in your workout routine. Even just a quick 15-30 minutes a day can help improve your physical well-being.
See what you can do at home
You don’t have to leave the comfort of your home at all to squeeze a workout in. Squats, crunches, mountain climbers, and yoga and Pilates-based workouts will all help you stay in shape this season. Do mini workouts during commercial breaks of your favorite shows if you really don’t feel like leaving the living room.
Try something new
It’s a new year, meaning there’s no better time to challenge yourself to try something new. There are dozens of different types of workout classes, you simply have to find the one that fits your lifestyle best. Buy a classpass to try out various unique fitness classes, and you might just find one that you want to stick with. If you love a certain class, it won’t even feel like a chore to stay fit throughout the season.
Treat yourself to new gear
Nothing motivates me more to go workout than buying new workout clothes. The same can be said for many people who feel less motivated to hit the gym on a cold winter day. But a brand-new workout outfit waiting for you in your drawer could be just what gets you lacing up your sneakers and out the door.
Be mindful of nutrition, too
Working out doesn’t cancel out eating poorly. Even though it’s natural to indulge in more comfort-type foods this time of year, try not to overdo it. Remember to continue drinking water throughout the day, eat healthy fats, and repeat this to yourself: everything in moderation.
These winter workout tips are sure to give you that boost of motivation you need this season.
