Add These Autumnal Superfoods to Your Diet

A new season is the perfect excuse to try out fresh recipes, and why not amp them up even more with a superfood or two? Superfoods are known for their nutritional value that surpasses that of your typical fruit and veg, and these are the ones in season for fall that will elevate any meal or snack.

Apples

One of the most prominent fruits on any kitchen counter in fall is the apple. Whether you go apple picking or buy locally from the farmers market, the apple craze that comes around every year is for good reason. They are rich with antioxidants and fiber, making them the perfect snack.

Tip: Keep the skin on to fully benefit from the nutrients apples offer!

Pumpkin

Unfortunately, we’re not talking about pumpkin spice lattes here. Whether in puree or squash form, pumpkins are full of vitamins and fiber. This gourd can make for a great side for any dinner—with significant levels of potassium and vitamin A.

Dates

A dessert addition favorite because of their natural sweetness, dates are also chockfull of healthy nutrients, like fiber, potassium, phenolic acid (which is anti-inflammatory), and natural sugars. You can make a paste to be used as a substitute for white cane sugar.

Cranberries

This superfood isn’t just a Thanksgiving Day side dish, when eaten on their own, cranberries make for a great snack that’s high in vitamin C, low in calories, and full of antioxidants that help ward off a variety of ailments.

Sweet Potatoes

This root vegetable is best enjoyed baked, whole or peeled. The potato of the purple variety is shown to be beneficial to the eye, while in general, sweet potatoes can help aid digestive health.

Add these superfoods to your diet to keep your health in top shape throughout the fall season.
