Fitness apps can be a useful tool for those who like to keep track of their exercises, weight loss, and nutrition. Apps like these are great but can come with a cost. Save money and get fit for free with these apps instead.

Nike Training Club

This app has one of the widest arrays of features compared to other free fitness apps. It has both a free and paid version. The standard version features workouts and a food log, but in addition there is a space for mindfulness. The mindfulness section goes over tips for wellness physically and mentally beyond the gym, such as meditation and sleep for positive post workout recovery. If you’re focused on working out a specific group of muscles, the workouts are broken down by muscle group. Nike Training Club has workouts for all levels, but is slim on cardio workouts and heavy on working muscle groups.

MyFitnessPal

Fans rave about this app for the ability to use it for weight loss. There are both free and paid versions. The features are mostly trackers, so if you’re someone who already has an established workout routine and aren’t looking for new ones, try this one out. There is a food log that will analyze the macronutrients you’ve consumed as well as help you set calorie and fitness goals for weight loss. Looking for support? There is a community blog section to help support other users on their fitness journey.

Fitocracy

For those beginning to workout, Fitocracy offers resources beyond workouts to get you started on your journey. Based on a motivational system, each workout logged earns the user points to level up within the app, making it a large game in which you compete against friends and family to see who levels up the fastest. The interactive progress charts and community makes this the best motivational free fitness app.

Fitness Point

People looking to create workout plans and keep a schedule; this app will send reminders and allow you to create and save workout routines. By creating and customizing workouts, users get to make the app their own. The paid version allows users to pick a personal fitness coach based off their needs, but the free version offers enough support with community blogs.

Each app is unique and tailored to fit different levels and needs. Choose the right one for you, and it’s OK if it requires some trial and error. Fitness is a journey and apps are a great resource to guide you along the way, but never feel like you need to pay.
